The next COUP will be held at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, on 6-8 September 2011. It is being hosted by APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges - the procurement Centre of Expertise and purchasing consortium for Scotland’s universities and colleges) and its member institutions.
The formal conference will kick off on 7 September and will include keynote speakers and seminars on topics that are current and vital to developing procurement in the higher education sector. The programme will focus on technical procurement skills and knowledge, as well as the softer skills that are essential to the procurement role. Running alongside the conference, on 7 and 8 September, there will be a busy supplier exhibition. In addition, an excellent evening entertainment programme is being arranged. The grand finale will be a gala dinner at the world-famous Old Course Hotel in St Andrews. The annual general meeting of the Association of University Procurement Officers (AUPO) will likely, as per the norm, be held late afternoon on the day before the formal conference commences (i.e. Tuesday 6 September).
About St Andrews
The University of St Andrews was founded from 1411 to 1413, meaning COUP 2011 coincides with celebrations marking the 600-year anniversary of the University. St Andrews was the first university in Scotland and is the third oldest in the English-speaking world. It has established a reputation over six centuries as a leading and distinctive centre for teaching, research and knowledge transfer. St Andrews town is beautiful and historic, with a medieval town centre that is easy to explore on foot. The Old Course is arguably the most famous golf course in the world and golf has been played here for some 600 years.
About COUP
The Conference on University Purchasing (COUP) is the most significant event for procurement professionals and those with responsibility for purchasing both in the UK further and higher education sectors, as well as welcoming delegates from across the English speaking world of higher education. It is held every two years at an institution in a different region in the UK and arranged by one of the UK higher education regional purchasing consortia on a rotating basis.
